Outlook Users Marked as Bots?

Hey,

I wanted to discuss something with you. I just checked my campaign stats, and I noticed that my own email is marked as a 'BOT.' The thing is, I opened that email myself on Outlook. Do you think Mumara considers Outlook users as bots? That wouldn't make sense, considering how many people use Outlook. Also, I couldn't see my IP address. Do you think the admin has hidden it, or is it because of Outlook?

Hi,

The image is not showing IP, which is causing Mumara to be unable to detect the agent and mark it as a bot. It appears that you may not have installed the GeoIP dependency. To obtain the IP and other geolocation information, install the GeoIP dependency.

how do I check if my GeoIP feature is turned on or off? I'm not sure if it's enabled or not.

Hello William,

Once you have clicked to download the Geoip Dependencies from the drop down menu of the Initial Setup Guide the GeoIP feature will stay enabled for every campaign you sent from Mumara. It is not recommended to disable this feaure thats why there is no setting available for this in the UI however, if you still need to turn it off you can manually remove 'geoip' folder from your Mumara root installation directory. Please have a look at the snapshot as well for better understanding.

Maybe you didn't catch what I said earlier. I clearly mentioned that I checked the email on Outlook, and guess what? It's showing up as a 'BOT'

Hello William,

In Mumara, GeoIP dependencies use Maxmind databases which are considered one of the biggest IP information repositories so whatever response while fetching openers we get from it we post it in the available open statistics, and upon its behavioral evaluation it may have considered the emails as BOT. Still, there is nothing to worry about it will not affect anything on the stats. You may choose to exclude them by clicking on the 'Exclude Bots' toggle.

Thankyou

If Outlook users are being marked as bots, it generally means that the email service or platform receiving the emails is identifying the messages as potentially automated or spammy. This can happen due to various reasons:
  1. High Volume of Emails: Sending a large number of emails in a short period can trigger spam filters, making the recipients' email servers mark the messages as coming from bots.
  2. Suspicious Content: Emails containing certain keywords, links, or attachments that are commonly associated with spam or phishing attempts can be flagged.
  3. IP Address Reputation: If the IP address from which the emails are sent has a poor reputation or is listed on a spam blacklist, the emails might be marked as coming from bots.
  4. Lack of Proper Authentication: Emails that lack proper authentication methods like SPF (Sender Policy Framework), DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail), and DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) are more likely to be flagged as spam.
  5. Inconsistent Sending Patterns: Irregular sending patterns or sudden spikes in email activity can raise suspicion and result in emails being marked as automated.
To address this issue, consider the following steps:
  • Ensure your email sending practices comply with best practices to avoid spam triggers.
  • Use email authentication protocols like SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
  • Monitor and maintain the reputation of your sending IP addresses.
  • Avoid sending too many emails too quickly.
  • Ensure your email content is relevant, personalized, and avoids common spam triggers.
By adhering to these practices, you can reduce the likelihood of Outlook users' emails being marked as bots.

@shakyapreeti650, identifying bots isn't about how you send your campaigns; it's based on the delivery reports Mumara receives.

First, let's understand how Mumara identifies a contact as a bot.

When a subscriber or contact has multiple engagements through very similar enviorment such as same IP/browser/opertating system etc
in a short period, Mumara considers this as bot activity.

I also noticed in the screenshot that the ID is the same. This means the campaign was opened multiple times from the same account and browser. Even though the IP wasn't captured for some reason, the email address that kept opening the campaign was the same.
