Do I need a subdomain for email sending?

I need some advice before I mess something up.

I’m setting up email sending in Mumara and I keep seeing recommendations about using a subdomain instead of my main domain.

Right now, my website is on let's just say: example.com

My questions are:
  • Do I really need a subdomain like mail.example.com or m.example.com?
  • Can I send emails directly from example.com?
  • What happens if I don’t use a subdomain?
I just want a safe setup that won’t hurt my domain reputation later
 
Yes you need a subdomain and you’re right to ask this before sending anything.

And you should use a subdomain for email sending.

Technically, you can send from your main domain, but it’s risky long-term.
 
Here’s the real risk, based on what I’ve seen usually. However, you can manage this in Mumara setups:

Your domain reputation is shared across:
  • Website
  • Emails
  • Anything tied to that domain
If you send campaigns directly from example.com and later:
  • You get spam complaints
  • Engagement drops
  • A bad list slips in
That reputation hit affects:
  • Your emails
  • Your website trust
  • Even Google indexing in extreme cases
Using a subdomain keeps email reputation isolated.
 
Mumara doesn’t force a specific name this part is always flexible.

Common and safe options:
  • mail.example.com
  • m.example.com
  • news.example.com
  • notify.example.com
What matters is:
  • The subdomain is dedicated to email
  • SPF, DKIM, DMARC and other authentications are set on that subdomain
Once that’s done, Mumara treats it as your sending identity.
