Duplicate Click Tracking

In the "email_clicked" database table, what does the "is_duplicate" column represent?
Is it the link clicked multiple times by the same person, or multiple links clicked within a set timeframe? If so, what's the timeframe and is it adjustable?

For context, we seem to be receiving vast amounts of bot-looking traffic where multiple links are clicked within a second or two, and we need to figure out the best way of removing these from our results for specific links.
