How to Build IP Reputation Without Landing in Spam

I just added a new dedicated IP to my Mumara instance. I have a list of 50,000 opted-in subscribers, but I’m worried about getting blocked by Gmail and Outlook if I send to everyone at once.

Does anyone have a proven IP warming schedule for 2026? How many emails should I start with on Day 1, and what are the 'red flags' I should look out for in my Mumara analytics during the process?"

Dear Beau,

To ensure your email reaches the inbox, you must treat the first 30 days like a "first impression" with ISPs (Internet Service Providers). They don't trust new IPs by default; you have to earn that trust through consistent, low-volume, high-engagement sending. Please make sure of the following:

1. The 30-Day Warming Blueprint (Example for 50k List)

This schedule assumes you are sending to your most engaged users (those who opened/clicked in the last 30–60 days).

WeekDaily VolumeStrategy
Week 150 – 500Focus on personal domains or internal test seeds.
Week 21,000 – 2,500Split sends across major providers (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook).
Week 35,000 – 10,000Monitor bounce rates closely; begin segmenting by ISP.
Week 420,000+Scale toward your full list capacity if engagement remains >20%.

2. Critical Technical Checklist

Before you send the first email, ensure your Sending Domain is configured correctly:
  • PTR Record (Reverse DNS): Your IP must point back to your sending domain.
  • SPF/DKIM/DMARC: These are non-negotiable in 2026. Use a p=quarantine or p=reject policy for maximum sender points.
  • Feedback Loops (FBL): Ensure you are signed up for Junk Mail Reporting Programs (like Microsoft’s JMRP) so Mumara can automatically unsub people who mark you as spam.
3. Monitoring "Red Flags" in Mumara

Keep an eye on your Campaign Statistics dashboard. If you see the following, pause your volume increase:
  • Bounce Rate > 3%: This suggests poor list hygiene or "graylisting."
  • High Deferred/Rate-Limited Errors: If you see "421" errors, the ISP is telling you to slow down. Do not increase volume the next day.
  • Open Rate < 15%: This often indicates your mail is being routed to the junk folder.
4. Pro-Tip: The "Engagement First" Rule

During warming, only send your best content. Send a welcome series or a high-value newsletter. If users "star" your email or move it from "Promotions" to "Primary," it sends a massive positive signal to Google’s filters, accelerating your warming process.

Let me know if you need any further information in this matter.

Thankyou
